What are you finding it takes to find the right job in today's work environment? What is it that you say, or is it, how do you say what you have to say, in both your cover letter and resume?
Aside from merely sending your resume and cover letter, what do you do to get the interview or connect with the right person at the company for which you are applying?
In an environment where employers are able to demand more, how are you making sure you can demonstrate capabilities in all of their required skills?
What are the other challenges you are faced with in finding a job?
I found an interesting article about how to interview at http://jobsearch.about.com/cs/interviews/a/aceinterview.htm. It shares some thoughts about how to prepare for an interview, that for some may seem obvious. One of the things that it touches on, is staying calm, and this, I feel, deserves probably the most attention. How is it that you feel you are able to get into a space where you're calm?
ReplyDeleteIt seems that much of the nervousness that comes up in interviewing or making the best 1st impression in any situation, in part, comes from our own limiting beliefs about ourselves. These are beliefs about ourselves that have been ingrained in us from the time we started understanding language. It is the conversations that people have had with us, whether it be parents, siblings or even teachers, as well as the conversations that we have about ourselves.
So the question then becomes, how do we move past these limiting beliefs? What are your suggestions? Please comment!
It seems that a new conversation that gets repeated about ourselves will have to take place. One that reaffirms our value to ourselves and to others. Like the conversations that have created the beliefs that limit us have taken repetition and time, so will these new conversations. Can you do this on your own?
My previous comment is all fine and dandy, but how is it that we get the interview in the first place? What are people finding helpful in getting that 1st interview? Do you do follow up after submitting your resume? How soon after do you do so? Do you customize your resume for each individual job so as to better highlight your skills that they are looking for? What form does your cover letter take? Is it more detailed and lengthy, showing that you've taken more time to research the company, how interested you are to work for the company and how you so well fit the position that they're looking to fill?
ReplyDeleteWhat are your thoughts on how we can help one another better connect to the jobs we want?
